The workshop was informative and easy-to-follow, carried out in a fun relaxing environment.  I've also learned how to formulate my own natural products that work best for my skin.

Horsetail is known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, coagulant, demulcent, diuretic and astringent properties. Horsetail contains the highest amounts of Silica (5-8%) of all known herbs. Silica helps to fix calcium, so that the body can store more quantity of this mineral and then use it to repair bones, collagen and other body tissues. In addition to Silica, Horsetail contains large amounts of potassium as well as starch and many fatty acids and 5% saponins.

In Cosmetics

Often called the ‘Beauty Herb’, Horsetail is used for clarifying, astringent, cell stimulant properties in natural skin & hair care products. Horsetail stimulates the production of new skin cells when used to treat eczema. Because of its high silica content the whole plant is used as an abrasive

Uses for Horsetail include (but are not limited to):

  • Tea Infusion (the basis for creams, lotions, salves, shower gels)
  • Bath teas
  • Foot baths
  • Compress (for sores, psoriasis, eczema, chilblains and varicose veins. It will soothe and reduce itchiness)
  • Shampoos (to add strength, thickness and shine to hair)
