Lemon Balm is a wonderful lush green herb and is attributed to its noticeable lemony scent. It has antibacterial, anti-oxidant, antispasmodic, antiviral, aromatic and carminative properties.

In Skincare

Lemon balm is loaded with antioxidants that keep your skin cells safe from free radical damage. Other significant antioxidants include ferulic, caffeic acids, and quercetin. Quercetin specifically is known as a powerful compound for combating premature aging and wrinkles.

In Cosmetics

Lemon balm has many uses in natural herbal skincare. The first cosmetic use of lemon balm goes back to the 1300s when the Queen of Hungary used it to erase the years (and reportedly the wrinkles). It’s still recommended for soothing the skin and reducing fine lines.

Lemon balm is classified as being calming, soothing, healing and tightening on the skin, whilst also stimulating circulation. It is thought to be great for acne and sunburned skin.

Uses for Lemon Balm include (but are not limited to)

  • Infused oils (the basis for salves, balms and creams)
  • Toners
  • Facial steams
  • Facial masks
  • Bath teas
  • Soaps
